Family of Sublime to Hold Free Sobriety Festival and Benefit Concert

Oceanside, California – The family of the late Bradley Nowell, frontman for the band Sublime, will host the first annual sobriety festival on May 11, named “A Sublime Life,” at the Oceanside Civic Center. This event will be free to the public and held from 10:00am until 3:00pm. A benefit concert will follow for The Nowell Family Foundation from 5:00pm until 10:00pm named “Sublime Family Jam.”

The Nowell Family Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was formed by Bradley’s “Papa” Jim, sister Kellie Nowell, and son Jakob Nowell. The foundation’s goals are to bring awareness and treatment of addiction and to strengthen mental health in our communities. Their first goal was to establish “Bradley’s House,” an elevated sobriety home for recovering musicians phased to become a full service residential treatment campus.

“A Sublime Life” sobriety festival will offer a variety of resources, including government and nonprofit organizations, live music and art, health and wellness programs and guest speakers. This event is free to the public.

“The intention of the sobriety festival is to bring together a community of those affected by addiction, and to promote a positive message that sobriety is not a weakness, but a demonstration of strength and conquering one’s demons,” states Chairman of the Board Kevin Shin. “There is a large population of those in sobriety. We want them to gather together in celebration instead of suppressing their effort due to shame and embarrassment.”

The “Sublime Family Jam” benefit concert will be an exclusive ticketed event at Oceanside Museum of Art. The evening will be hosted by Jakob Nowell (son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell) and Eric Wilson of Sublime, along with Troy Dendekker (Bradley’s widow) DJing. Special guest performances will be announced leading up to the event. A rare museum exhibition of unique Sublime memorabilia will be on display, as well as an intimate presentation of the Nowell Family Foundation.

Tickets are available on EventBrite. More information on The Nowell Family Foundation can be found at www.thenowellfamilyfoundation.org.
