SAN MARCOS — Two Republican candidates are getting very early starts for the upcoming District 5 race for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors … in 2026.
Vista Mayor John Franklin has been hitting the fundraising trail since August 2023, while San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones is formally announcing her candidacy today at 5:30 at Draft Republic, 255 Redel Rd.
One reason for the early announcements is fundraising as Franklin said he expects the race to cost up to $2 million. So far, he’s raised more than $405,000, according to campaign disclosures, while Jones has yet to start building her war chest as she just formally entered the race.
Also, the supervisorial races come with different campaign contribution limits and candidates cannot accept money from Political Action Committees (PACs) or SuperPACs. Residents can donate up to $1,000 in both the primary and general elections and a county party cannot exceed $25,000 to an endorsed candidate. (County campaign contribution code)
