The state’s newly drawn 74th Assembly District stretches from Laguna Niguel down the coast to Oceanside in San Diego County. The new district also includes Camp Pendleton and has picked up cities such as San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and Vista.
According to the Secretary of State’s 2020 voter registration data, less than a quarter percentage separate the Democrats and Republicans in the 74th District.
Two candidates are going for the open seat: Democrat Chris Duncan who’s the current mayor pro tem of San Clemente and Republican Laurie Davies who was the former Laguna Niguel mayor who currently represents the 73rd Assembly District.
Chris has put partisanship aside to protect our country over his entire career. On the San Clemente City Council, he’s worked across party lines to get things done. And working with administrations of both parties in the Department of Homeland Security and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He’ll bring the same approach to Sacramento, working with Democrats and Republicans to do what’s best for San Diego and Orange Counties and the state of California.
As we emerge from the pandemic, instead of partisan fighting, he’ll do what he’s always done – focus on independent, common sense solutions that get real results on the issues that impact local families most. https://www.votechrisduncan.com/on-the-issues
With over 20 years of experience as entrepreneur and small business owner, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies has been an active part of her community. As a long-standing Chamber member and through her experience as an elected official, Laurie recognizes the importance of supporting the business community and enacting policies at the state and local level that help encourage businesses to expand and thrive.
In just her first 2 years as Assemblywoman, Davies has been instrumental in bringing critical funding that has helped directly support the needs of her community. She led the effort in bringing $16.9 million for the Orange County Fire Authority to purchase more equipment and establish of a second emergency command center, at a remote location. Davies worked to award San Clemente High School with a $5000 grant to help purchase new equipment that could be checked out in the library, and used as students need. Laurie continues to serve as an advocate for education and has become a champion for families and students.
Assemblywoman Davies has been been a voice of reason in Sacramento by offering common sense solutions on contraception, the climate, gasoline tax relief, education and more. Laurie has developed a proven track record in her freshman term, introducing 13 bills that were signed into law, on issues from veteran support to food insecurity. She is the only candidate for the 74th Assembly District that has earned the endorsement of Law Enforcement, which can be credited to her commitment to safety and her work to help solve the fentanyl epidemic. Davies works towards practical solutions that are aimed at solving every day issues for Californians, including her leading efforts to suspend the State’s gas tax on 3 different occasions.
Laurie lives in Laguna Niguel with her husband, Neil, and remains a “voice of choice and reason in the Assembly that voters should keep in Sacramento.”
