Vista, CA — This past Saturday, Frank Nuñez, a local community leader and member of the Vista Irrigation District Board of Directors, announced his campaign for Vista City Council, District 1 at a well attended kick off event in Downtown Vista.
In announcing his campaign, Nuñez stated, “In the early 1960s, my parents came to Vista so their family could have a better life. We grew up in the heart of this town and it made me who I am today. I love Vista, but I also know we can do better as a community. I am running for City Council to keep our neighborhoods safe, repair and maintain our roads, upgrade our parks, support small businesses, and make Vista a more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Born and raised in Vista, Nuñez attended local schools and graduated from Vista High. He continued his education at Palomar College while working full-time at a local grocery store and raising his first child, eventually becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree, graduating with honors from California State University, Northridge. Nuñez built his career in local agriculture—connecting producers with local retailers through farm-to-fork supply chains. Nuñez currently serves on the Vista Irrigation District Board of Directors, advocating for safe, reliable, and affordable water for local families.
Nuñez is announcing his campaign with deep support from elected officials and community leaders in Vista. Vista Mayor John Franklin endorsed Frank, stating “Frank Nuñez is a passionate advocate for Vista. He knows this community as someone who grew up here and raised his family here. I am confident that Frank will always make the tough decisions needed to protect Vista’s public safety and quality of life.”
In addition to Mayor Franklin, Nuñez has secured endorsements from Vista City Councilman Jeff Fox, former Vista Councilman John Aguilera, Vista Unified School Board Trustee Mike Markov, former Vista Unified School Board Trustee Jim Gibson, and several additional leaders from around the region.
Frank has been married to his high school sweetheart, Christina, for 28 years, and they live near Bobier Elementary and Vista High with their three children: Isaiah, Ruby, and Elijah. Nuñez is running for the Vista City Council District 1 seat, currently held by Corrina Contreras, in the November 2026 election.
