Los Angeles, CA —
GOP Union Caucus announced its unanimous endorsement of “No on Prop 50,” citing serious concerns over Gavin Newsom’s authoritarian control of district maps, the manipulation of statewide elections, and the impact on California’s working-class families.

Prop 50, which will appear on the November ballot, has drawn sharp criticism from California’s union leaders. GOP Union Caucus joins a growing coalition of labor groups, elected officials, fiscal watchdogs, and concerned Californians urging voters to reject Prop 50.

“Our members stand united in opposition to Prop 50,” said Randy Berholtz, Executive Director of GOP Union Caucus. “Mid-decade redistricting is a misguided attempt to centralize power, undermining the rights of union workers across California.”

“Prop 50 is a direct attack on the California Citizens Redistricting Commission,” said Rudy Melendez, Chair of GOP Union Caucus. “It undermines the will of voters and silences the voices of working-class Californians. We won’t stand for it.”

GOP Union Caucus is committed to protecting the voting rights of union members and promoting power to the people, not politicians. We call on Californians to Vote No on Prop 50.

“California’s future depends on nonpartisan congressional districts that empower—not punish—its workforce,” added Lydia Gutierrez. “We urge California voters to stand with GOP Union Caucus and Vote No on Prop 50.”

GOP Union Caucus is composed of individual members of the following labor organizations and others:
American Federation of Government Employees
California Nurses Association
California Teachers Association
International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Laborers’ International Union of North America
National Education Association
National Postal Mail Handlers Union
