Daniel Peterson Joins Escondido Leadership Team as Utilities Director

The City of Escondido is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Peterson as Director of Utilities, effective January 5, 2026.

Daniel is an accomplished utility operations leader with more than 15 years of experience managing water, wastewater, and recycled water systems. He began his career in frontline customer service and advanced through roles in finance and operations, building a strong foundation in both technical and policy expertise.

Most recently, Daniel served as Regulatory and Logistics Manager at Santa Margarita Water District, where he supported a highly complex system serving over 210,000 residents. His responsibilities included ensuring regulatory compliance, managing logistics, and leading modernization initiatives. Daniel has successfully implemented digital transformation projects, improved water quality standards, and advanced energy efficiency programs that earned industry awards.

The City also extends its appreciation to Kyle Morgan for his exceptional service as Interim Utilities Director during the transition.

The City of Escondido Utilities Department provides essential services to the community, including water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, recycled water programs, stormwater management, and water conservation initiatives. The department also oversees major infrastructure projects and environmental programs that ensure reliable, sustainable service for residents and businesses
