OCEANSIDE — The city’s newest fire station is up and running, but has triggered an unexpected staffing shift, leaving South Oceanside without a paramedic ambulance, and pushed Carlsbad to fill the gap.
The city suspended one of its ambulances at Fire Station 2 in South Oceanside on Dec. 13 and reassigned its crew to help open Fire Station No. 9 in the northern part of the city, creating a shortage Oceanside officials say stems from an “unforeseen” budget issue, Oceanside Fire Chief David Parsons said. Carlsbad leaders said they only received two weeks’ notice and scrambled to deploy an additional ambulance to avoid delays along the cities’ shared border, according to a City Council memo.
