On Thursday, February 26, around 8:00 a.m., deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in the 600 block of Casita Lane in San Marcos.

Electronic items were stolen from inside the vehicle.

Through investigative efforts, deputies were able to track the stolen property to the 2200 block of Mira Sol Drive in the City of Vista. Upon arrival, deputies observed a man sitting in a vehicle in the area. As deputies approached the vehicle to make contact, the man, later identified as Dylan Harn (DOB 04/08/1992), ran off.

Deputies approached the vehicle Harn was in and saw the stolen items from the earlier vehicle burglary in plain view inside the passenger compartment. Believing Harn to be the suspect, deputies conducted a search of the surrounding area using an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), also known as a drone.

During a search of the area, deputies discovered evidence of a marijuana grow in the yard of a home where Harn had fled. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Narcotics and Gang Division responded and executed a search warrant at that location. During the service of the search warrant, detectives seized drug contraband and additional evidence of other potential crimes.

While the search warrant was being conducted, citizens in the area detained Harn who was hiding nearby and contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived and arrested Harn on theft and narcotics-related charges. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
