CARLSBAD — Emotions were redlining as more than 100 people gathered at the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, demanding action after a young Black girl was subject to racist slurs and antagonized to fight another girl on March 3.

A cellphone video was posted online last week showing several juveniles surrounding the girl on an electric bike at Poinsettia Park. One boy is seen holding the girl’s handlebars, preventing her from leaving, taunting her to fight another girl in the video, while others are calling her names.

The victim was slapped by another girl, starting a physical altercation.
