VISTA — Nestled in Brengle Terrace Park sits one of the region’s performance gems.

The Moonlight Amphitheatre is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year with classic musicals and a robust concert lineup. Over the years, the theatre has grown from a humble, do-it-yourself operation to one of the, if not the best, venues in all of San Diego County.

The 2,000-seat outdoor theatre is also home to some of the best actors and performers in the region, while offering season-ticket holders, first-time visitors, and students a Broadway-like experience.

“I can sell the Moonlight to anybody, and I do,” said Steve Glaudini, the producing Artistic Director of the city’s Cultural Arts Division. “We found that the concerts have been building a new audience for our musicals. We, and this community, love it so much.”

He said the theatre began in 1976 as a basic stage where actors, crew, and others had to build and tear down sets after each show. Five years later, a Vista High School teacher started the Vista Summer Music Festival, which held two shows each year.
