The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is inviting community members and the media to a public forum to discuss the future of the Vista Detention Facility.
Originally built in 1972 with expansions in 1978 and 1988, the current Vista Detention Facility, located adjacent to the Vista Sheriff’s Station and North County Superior Court, is in dire need of replacement and modernization.
This second forum (the first was held in Vista in February 2026) is an opportunity to hear factual information, understand the current planning process and provide community input on the future modernization of the Vista Detention Facility.
Join us on:
Tuesday, June 16
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Encinitas Community Center
1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas
To watch a short video inviting the public to the community forum,
Sheriff Kelly Martinez will be joined by representatives from the Sheriff’s Detention Services Bureau (including the Vista Detention Facility and Sheriff’s Reentry Services), the San Diego County Department of General Services (DGS), law enforcement leaders and community reentry experts to inform and answer questions from the public about the need for a new and modern jail in Vista.
Media: Sheriff Martinez and other speakers will be available for one-on-one interviews before and after the community forum.
This community forum is part of our commitment to transparency by ensuring the public and media are informed about how we strive to provide quality services to people in our custody.
