Arrest Made in Ramona Double Homicide Investigation

On Monday, July 6, 2026, at approximately 8:44 p.m., deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm in the 600 block of 11th Street in Ramona.

Upon arrival, deputies located a male at the steps of the residence. He was detained without incident. Deputies entered the home and discovered an adult female victim and adult male victim suffering from significant traumatic injuries. Emergency medical personnel were requested, who arrived shortly after. The victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identity of the decedents is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

The detained individual has been identified as 33‑year‑old Ryan Proffitt of Escondido. Mr. Proffitt was arrested for two counts of Penal Code section 187(a), murder, and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.

The circumstances and motive surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Based on information gathered thus far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community.
