CARLSBAD — One of the region’s most prominent leaders in the arts is closing the curtain after cementing New Village Arts as one of the region’s crown jewels.
Kristianne Kurner founded New Village Arts in Carlsbad in 2001 and built the small theatre into a regional force during her tenure as executive artistic director. She wore many hats as she built the organization from scratch, from nothing but a dream into one of the premier destinations for musicals, plays, workshops, and so much more.
But now, Kurner, 54, is stepping down as NVA’s leader, although she will ride into her next chapter after she directs “As You Like It” and produces “In the Heights” next year as part of NVA’s 25th anniversary. She said the time is right for the next generation to take the reins…..
