SAN MARCOS — A long-running city tradition appears to be on pause.
The Kiwanis Club of Lake San Marcos announced in August it cannot run the annual Holiday Parade in December because of financial challenges. The City Council discussed the issue during its Sept. 8 meeting and conceded it cannot financially or logistically support the parade with such a short runway.
Parks and Recreation Director Darren Chamow said the city would pay between $50,000 and $70,000 to host the parade. If the city were to contract the duties to a third party, the cost estimates would spike to $150,000….
