VISTA — The city is joining a growing list of municipalities seriously discussing and potentially acting on automated license plate readers, Flock cameras, and other surveillance technology.
Vista Councilwoman Corinna Contreras brought forward a discussion item during Tuesday’s meeting, along with presenting a five-point roadmap. The framework called for a surveillance technology audit, drafting an ordinance, mapping all cameras, a comparative study of other municipal policies, and district-specific workshops to gather community feedback.
The council agreed on four of the options with the exception of the camera mapping, as it could inadvertently provide criminals with a guide to evade detection and law enforcement.
