On Thursday, October 8, around 8:30 p.m., deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station received a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera system regarding a vehicle associated with a retail grand theft investigation in San Marcos.
Deputies located the vehicle in a parking lot located in the 500 block of W. San Marcos Boulevard. They detained Praharsha Pasumarthi (DOB: 11/05/1998), Summer Olney (DOB: 05/02/2003) and Lora Smith (DOB: 06/15/1986) near the vehicle.
During the investigation, deputies learned the suspects had just stolen almost $1,000 worth of merchandise from a nearby grocery store. The stolen items were recovered from inside the vehicle.
All three suspects were arrested on charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit theft and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
The ALPR camera system continues to be an important public safety tool, assisting law enforcement in locating vehicles connected to criminal activity and helping deputies identify and apprehend suspects. The above case highlights how ALPR technology supports investigations, assists in the recovery of stolen property, and helps to remove prolific offenders from the community.
