OCEANSIDE, CA (Saturday, October 10, 2026) – Professional ice hockey takes place in the city of Oceanside, California for the first time in history on Saturday night as the Oceanside Shock take the ice at Frontwave Arena, doing battle with the Fresno Falcons. The game is set for a 6pm faceoff and can be viewed exclusively online on the Shock’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/@oceansideshock.
The Shock, Falcons and Stockton Thunder are all entering the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) as expansion teams, as part of the new Western Conference Frontier Division, which will also feature the Minnesota Northern Lights and the Topeka Scarecrows. Baton Rouge, Monroe, Mid-South and Columbus form the Delta Division to wrap up the West. The FPHL consists of 17 teams in four divisions, with all the teams chasing the league’s first-ever three-time consecutive champion, the Binghamton Black Bears, who have claimed the Commissioners Cup in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

The Federal Prospects Hockey League is a professional single-A minor hockey league with member clubs across the United States. The FPHL is committed to growing the game, developing players and supporting professional hockey in passionate local communities. The league enters its 17th season in 2026-27.

The Shock and Falcons opened the season on Friday night at Selland Arena, with the Falcons getting the better of a 7-2 result. Fresno (1-0, 2 pts) came out of a scoreless first period with four goals in under six minutes to take control in the second period. Nick Wagner and Ethan Yang netted for Oceanside (0-1, 0 pts). The two teams will meet ten times during the regular season, with the second meeting set for Saturday night. The Shock will conclude their 3-in-3 opening weekend by hosting the Stockton Thunder Sunday night at 5pm.

About the Shock
The newest entrants into the FPHL, the Oceanside Shock are excited to make waves in the new Frontier Division. Owned by Phil Salvagio, the Shock are one of four franchises partnered with Frontwave Arena, including the MASL San Diego Sockers, NLL San Diego Seals, and NBA-G San Diego Clippers. The San Diego Strike Force also play at Frontwave Arena as the fifth active pro team in competition.

Bench Boss
Craig Carlyle was named over the summer as the first head coach in Oceanside Shock history. The son of Stanley Cup-winning head coach Randy Carlyle, Craig has an extensive amount of amateur and pro coaching experience in Southern California, and brings extensive roots in the local region to the Oceanside bench. This is his first professional head coaching position.

Local Flavor
The Shock will lean on Escondido-born-and-raised forward James Spaargaren to power the club’s offense, and hopes to get major contributions from fellow Escondidoan Sam Bailey, who recently featured for San Diego Sabers. Reserve players Anthony Mata (SDSU) and Matt Zenzola (San Diego) are also products of the region.

Nick of Time
Nick Wagner is the Shock’s scoring leader after one game, netting the first goal in franchise history at 3:26 of the second period in Fresno. He then assisted on Ethan Yang’s 5-on-3 power play goal in the third period.

Special Teams Struggle Early
While the Shock’s penalty kill was a respectable 4-for-5 against Fresno in the opener, the power play went 1-for-6 while conceding two short-handed goals to Fresno’s Houston Wilson.
