OCEANSIDE, CA (Thursday, October 22, 2026) – The Oceanside Shock begin week three in the FPHL with the first of two weekend home games against a fellow expansion team, the Minnesota Northern Lights. Game one is Friday at 7:30pm from Frontwave Arena. The second game will be Star Wars Night for the Shock, a Sunday 5:00pm faceoff. Both games will be aired exclusively on the Oceanside Shock YouTube Channel, youtube.com/@OceansideShock.
The Shock and Northern Lights, as well as fellow California expansion teams Stockton Thunder and Fresno Falcons, have all entered the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) as expansion teams, as part of the new Western Conference Frontier Division, which also features Topeka Scarecrows. Baton Rouge, Monroe, Mid-South and Columbus form the Delta Division to wrap up the West. The FPHL consists of 17 teams in four divisions, with all the teams chasing the league’s first-ever three-time consecutive champion, the Binghamton Black Bears, who have claimed the Commissioners Cup in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The Federal Prospects Hockey League is a professional single-A minor hockey league with member clubs across the United States. The FPHL is in its 17th season in 2026-27.
Last week, Oceanside concluded a challenging opening run of five games in ten days, playing a weekend home-and-home with the Stockton Thunder. On Saturday night, the Shock helped open up Stockton’s Adventist Health Arena to hockey once again for the first time since 2015, and the host Thunder carried the momentum of a big crowd to a tense 3-1 victory. On Sunday, the two teams reconvened at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside for a wild first period that saw a 3-3 score after twenty minutes. Stockton controlled play from there in a 6-3 victory that dropped the Shock to 1-4-0 (2 points).
The Shock and Northern Lights will meet a total of eight times this season, with the first two taking place this weekend. Oceanside will travel first to Minnesota for games on November 20 and 21. Minnesota comes in with a 1-2-1 record (3 points). In their first two home games last weekend, the Northern Lights went to overtime both nights, losing once in the 3-on-3 and winning once in a shootout. The club has scored 12 goals and conceded 17 so far. Declan Conway leads Minnesota with (3-4=7) points. Bailey Huber and Matt Lenz split time equally in net over the four games.
