As you know, some of our Carlsbad schools are over 50 years old and don’t have modern classrooms, science labs or instructional technology. We’ve developed a Long Range Facility Master Plan (LRFMP) to replace aging education facilities and to upgrade older schools to meet the same academic and safety standards as newer schools; upgrade school security systems to better protect our students; and install energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions to save money on energy costs.

Using the funds generated through Measure HH, we plan to upgrade classrooms and labs to support high-quality instruction in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math; repair or replace deteriorating roofs, plumbing and inefficient heating, cooling, electrical and water systems, where needed; install solar power and battery storage solutions to minimize ongoing energy costs; keep computer systems and instructional technology up-to-date; and upgrade science labs, engineering labs and career technical education facilities to prepare students for college and in-demand careers.

We’re thrilled to have received the support needed to pass Measure HH, and we look forward to sharing our next steps with you; we’ll present an overview of Phase 1 projects at the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at 6:00 pm (held at the District Office: 6225 El Camino Real, Carlsbad 92009).

It is more clear to me than ever that we live in an outstanding community, and I am proud to serve as your superintendent. I look forward to continuing on our journey together, as we strive to provide every student an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment.

Sincerely,

Dr. Benjamin Churchill

Superintendent

Carlsbad Unified School District
