San Marcos city officials will gather on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 10 am to celebrate the grand opening of Mark J. Noy Jr. Outdoor Adult Fitness Zone located at the San Marcos Senior Activity Center, 111 Richmar Avenue. The ceremony is open to the public and guests are encouraged to carpool.
Offering outdoor circuit training and future instructor-led fitness classes, construction of the city’s first outdoor adult fitness zone was primarily funded through a generous donation from a Senior Activity Center patron, the late Mark J. Noy Jr., of whom the park is named.
The innovative recreation space will be the City’s first outdoor recreation space to offer a combination of cardio and strength training equipment. To top it off, the Fitness Zone will be ADA accessible and covered by sail shades for year-round use.
“In San Marcos, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of recreational spaces for residents,” said Parks & Recreation Director Buck Martin. “The outdoor fitness zone adds to these options and invites residents to get fit all while embracing one of our best assets—year-round sunshine.” As one of San Diego County’s Live Well communities, San Marcos is proud to offer adults a recreation space that encourages residents to embrace active lifestyles.
An on-site drinking fountain with water bottle refill station will be added to the park thanks to a donation by the Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the city’s Parks & Recreation programs and facilities.
The enhanced space is one of 36 community parks, demonstrating the City’s continued commitment to providing recreational opportunities for residents.
