Cal State San Marcos Women’s Golf Team is Ranked No. 3 In Pre Season Poll

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – After finishing runner-up in its first NCAA Division II National Championship appearance, the Cal State San Marcos women’s golf team is ranked No. 3 in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) preseason poll, announced Friday by the organization.

The Cougars received 273 points along with three first-place votes and sit behind top-ranked Barry (280) and No. 2-ranked Dallas Baptist (280).

Jaime Jacob was selected to the WGCA All-American Division II first team after bringing home CSUSM’s first individual National Championship trophy. Joining Jacob was Claire Hogle who collected second-team honors and Breann Horn who earned honorable-mention honors.

The Cougars also excelled in the classroom in 2018-19 as Jacob, Hogle, Bergen Benedict, Sarah Garcia and Savannah Magallon were named WGCA All-American Scholars. As a team, CSUSM had the highest cumulative GPA in NCAA Division II last season, second among all divisions, with a 3.903 GPA.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
