SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior women’s golfer Jaime Jacob and freshman men’s soccer player John Williamson have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2019.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Jacob began her 2019-20 season by winning the RJGA Shootout at Estrella on Sept. 24 in Goodyear, Arizona. Shooting a 4-under 140 and leading CSUSM to its season-opening tournament win, she was subsequently named the CCAA Golfer of the Week. Among NCAA Division II women’s golfers, Jacob is ranked third in the Golf stat player rankings.
Williamson began his career at CSUSM by scoring two goals off the bench in the Cougars’ win over No. 25 Fresno Pacific on Sept. 5 – his first-ever regular-season game. He then netted a penalty kick goal in double overtime at Cal State East Bay to win the game on Sept. 29. Williamson finished the month with a team-leading four goals and two assists. He’s currently tied for the sixth-most goals and points (10) in the CCAA and ranks 58th and 59th nationally for goals and points, respectively.
Jacob and the rest of the women’s golf team will finish up their final round at the Dixie State Invitational this afternoon in Hurricane, Utah. Williamson and the men’s soccer team will host No. 18 Cal State San Bernardino at The Cage on Friday at 3 p.m.
