SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos men’s cross country runner Joshua Litwiller collected his second consecutive Star of the Month honor by the San Diego Sports Association on Friday.

This is CSUSM’s third Star of the Month honor of the 2019-20 season as Litwiller was selected in October and women’s golfer Jaime Jacob received the honor in September.

The Carlsbad native had a season to remember as he became CSUSM’s first NCAA Division II West Region Champion while leading the Cougars to a third-place finish at regionals. For his efforts, he was also named the West Region Runner of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

At the NCAA Division II National Championships in Sacramento, Litwiller placed 17th and earned All-America honors – the first male runner in program history to do so in the NCAA era.

Each month, the San Diego Hall of Champions honors as many as four professional, six amateur and six high school athletes as Stars of the Month for their outstanding athletic accomplishments. Stars of the Month are recognized in the San Diego Union-Tribune, via the Hall of Champions’ app, social media channels and website, and at San Diego’s premier sports awards gala, Salute to the Champions. They also receive a Breitbard Star of the Month Certificate of Athletic Achievement. Top-performing Stars of the Month can also earn Star of the Year accolades. Those considered are either from San Diego or have achieved stardom for local teams.
