Vista Community Clinic (VCC) was selected to receive a grant of over 7,000 new children’s books to help the families they serve create word-filled homes and promote reading and learning all year long. The donation was from The Molina Foundation as part of its Book Buddies 2019 program to promote literacy.

“We feel extremely honored and very much appreciate this gift,” said CEO Fernando Sañudo. “We care about supporting the success of children and families we serve. Literacy is the key to progress for our community.”

The goal of the program is to provide resources to help children, parents, and caregivers in our communities to create word-filled homes through reading and learning together. VCC has long since supported the literacy of our young patients and community members. The pediatrics departments at VCC have strong literacy themes visible upon entry to their waiting rooms. The pediatric department at their 1000 Vale Terrace location in Vista even has its own reading area made to look like you’re sitting outside under a tree; you can cozy up in the “shade” of their trees with your favorite book and read while waiting to be seen by the doctor.

The healthcare center is looking forward to being able to replenish all of its sites with new books that range in age from 0 – Young Adult. Every child that visits the clinic will have access to a book suited to their age, and parents will have the opportunity to read to their little ones while they wait.
