SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 24/16 Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball led wire-to-wire while shooting 50% from the field to clinch a 73-48 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUSM got off to a hot start, finishing the first quarter with a 21-12 lead after shooting 53.8% from the field.
The Cougars went on their best run of the game at 10-0 in the second quarter for a 36-15 cushion.
CSUSM took a 45-21 lead into halftime with Forel leading the Cougars with 12 points and eight rebounds.
In the first half, the Cougars shot 62.5% (15-of-24) from the field while holding the Otters to 20% (6-of-30).
CSUSM took its largest lead of the game at 66-32 on a jumper by Jon’Nae Vermillion at the 8:14 mark in the fourth quarter.
FAST BREAKS
CSUSM improves to 11-2 (6-2 CCAA) while the Otters drop to 3-8 (3-6 CCAA).
The Cougars’ 25-point win was their largest-ever margin of victory in the NCAA Division II era. The previous record was a 23-point win (86-63) occurring against the Otters on Feb. 15, 2017, in The Sports Center.
With the win, CSUSM now holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series and remains undefeated at 4-0 at home.
The Cougars shot 50% or higher for the third time this season after going 22-of-44 from the field.
CSUSM’s defense held the Otters to just 21.9% field goal percentage, the Cougars’ best performance of the season.
Forel snagged her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
CSUSM won the battle of the boards at 41-38, but the Otters had an offensive rebound advantage at 17-5.
Twenty-eight of CSUSM’s 73 points came in the paint while shooting 42.9% (6-of-14) from behind the arc.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team earned its second consecutive win with a 92-79 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUSM went on a 13-0 run capped by a Darae Elliott layup at the 13:57 mark.
The Cougars ended the first half with a 47-34 lead after shooting 60% (18-of-30) from the field and held the Otters to 39.1% (9-of-23).
The Cougars committed only two turnovers in the opening half while the Otters tallied seven.
CSUSM began the second half on a 9-0 run after a pair of threes by Seits followed by a Goudeau 3-pointer.
The Otters got within single digits at 75-67 on a layup by Jahvon Johnson as the shot clock expired at 7:41 in the second half.
CSUMB got within five points at 75-70, but a pair of Marcus Brown free throws gave the Cougars a double-digit lead at 80-70 with 5:50 remaining.
The Otters made it a six-point game at 82-76 on a three by Johnson with 3:01 to play.
After a layup and free throw by Fuller put CSUSM back up 85-76 with 1:49 remaining, Johnson nailed another three to cut the deficit to 85-790 at the 1:36 mark.
Two Cougar layups and a pair of free throws in the final minute ended the game.
FAST BREAKS
CSUSM improves to 7-7 (3-5 CCAA) while CSUMB drops to 4-11 (1-8 CCAA).
Seit’s 28 points were a season high and the second most by a Cougar this season.
With Thursday’s 83-56 win over Cal State East Bay, CSUSM recorded back-to-back wins for the second consecutive year over travel partners CSUMB and CSUEB.
CSUSM’s 91 points and 21 made free throws were its most of the season.
The Cougars are now 6-1 in the all-time series against the Otters and are 4-0 at home.
This was CSUSM’s fifth consecutive win over CSUMB.
The Cougars’ seven turnovers were their fewest in a game this season.
