Vista, CA (May 19, 2020) – Citing the most recent public health orders by the State of California and the County of San Diego addressing large public gatherings during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Vista’s Wave Waterpark today announced that it is pausing operations indefinitely. Splash camps, swim lessons, lap swim, and all other classes are part of this temporary suspension. The Wave’s season this year was originally scheduled for May 23 – September 27.

“The Wave Waterpark has been part of the fabric of summer of many Vistans and visitors for 25 years,” said Recreation and Community Services Director Therron Dieckmann. “Providing opportunities for social contact and active programs that bring people together is part of Recreation’s mission. It is, therefore, a disappointing moment in time when we cannot provide these activities to our residents who look forward to the Wave Waterpark’s season. However, the health and welfare of our customers and of our staff, is a top priority in our decision making process.”

“We appreciate our customers’ support in these difficult times,” said Water Waterpark General Manager Angela Palasik. “We were excited about our summer season and were preparing to open Memorial Day weekend. Due to the State and County public health guidelines, we have determined that, at this time, we cannot maintain our normal health and safety standards that our customers come to expect. We look forward to the time when we will be able to welcome our Wave patrons back.”

Wave Waterpark customers, who have purchased 2020 season passes and individual day passes, are being provided the option of rolling their tickets over to the Wave’s 2021 season (Memorial Day weekend through September). Doing so guarantees that customers will enjoy the Wave at this year’s prices. Customers also have the option to request a refund. The same options are extended to those who have registered for splash camps and other Wave classes.
