Our NBC7 documentary series about the sex trafficking of children in San Diego, STOLEN, will launch the week of August 17th, 2020.
We are working daily to finalize the production of this multimedia platform of content that includes the seven-episode video series, written articles, resources, an interactive “Journey to Freedom” experience and a companion podcast series showcasing the findings of our year-long investigation. The “Journey to Freedom” is an interactive digital module we created to help explain risk factors, warning signs and resources as we follow several survivors on a journey from exploitation to freedom.
Since we hit pause on this project in March, San Diego’s Human Trafficking Task Force has seen a spike in juvenile victim recoveries. More kids are digitally connected than ever before putting more young people at risk of exploitation. San Diego’s District Attorney says the number of internet crimes against children tripled in the month of April.
It is our hope that the August launch of STOLEN will reach many families and increase awareness about this complex issue as kids prepare to go back to school.
Soroptimist Int’l Vista and North County Inland will also host a table at the Oceanside Health and Wellness Fair, Thursday, August 13. from 9-1 p.m. 928 N. Coast Highway. Learn more about labor and sex trafficking and what you can do to stop it.
