Contemporary books. Classics. Memorabilia. Art. Farenehit 451 Books (yes, it is intentionally misspelled) is one of those stores where you can lose yourself. And, you don’t have to be a bibliophile to fall in love with what owner, Phil Phillips, has created. Farenheit 451 owes its name to a devastating wildfire back in 2003 that destroyed about 60,000 books from the Old Julian Bookstore that he owned at the time. You can say that fire inspired him to move west from the hills to the coast and start over. Books run in his blood; this is his third bookstore in 30 years. His business has been open in Carlsbad Village for the last 15 years, offering every type of book imaginable. While no longer a big part of his business, Phil also repairs and restores books. He said that this type of work is mostly done on old children’s books and bibles.

One of the things that makes Farenheit 451 Books so much fun to visit is the variety of books and items he has for sale

On one table there are signed editions of “Edible Flowers” a kitchen companion with recipes written by a local author. Nearby is an original framed French movie poster from the 1950’s as well as a limited edition lithographic print complete with Mick Jagger’s signature from the Rolling Stones Collection. Whether you are looking for something inspirational, something historic, or a good old fashioned thriller, Phil probably has it in his collection of new and used books. Next time you are looking for a unique gift for someone special or want to find your next favorite novel, come visit Phil at Farenheit 451 (325 Carlsbad Village Dr.) and see what treasures you can find. www.farenheit451books.com
