Since 2010, the Wigs for Hope program at Tri-City Medical Center has provided free, custom wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately, as many resources have been impacted by the pandemic, our Wigs for Hope program has suffered a loss of funding. We’re currently 72% of the way toward our goal and need your support to get to 100% so we can continue providing this service and help these brave women feel more comfortable, confident and courageous.

During the fundraiser, we have seen a tremendous outpouring of support from women who have themselves gone through the Wigs for Hope program, or who have experienced the challenges of cancer and chemotherapy.

Our very own board member Colleen O’Harra donated to the program because of her battle with cancer and subsequent hair loss from chemotherapy. “I lost my hair to chemotherapy treatments three years ago,” said Colleen. “It was a frightening experience, but getting wigs I felt comfortable wearing made it much more palatable. I hope my contribution will help others maintain their self-esteem.”

The Facebook fundraiser also caught the attention of Mary Regan, cancer survivor and former oncology patient at Tri-City Medical Center. In a comment on Facebook, Mary shared part of her story with us:

“I really appreciated the support of my oncologist and the Tri-City Medical Center team, who kept calling me to check on my journey,” said Mary. “Having a wig while going through chemo treatment is so comforting. I remember the day I had to have my husband shave my head because ‘it was time’ – brings tears to my eyes even now. Making a donation today for Wigs For Hope is just as important as all the donations I have made in the past and the 5Ks I have participated in for cancer research.”

With your help, Tri-City Medical Center can continue to improve quality of life for the brave women battling cancer.
