Oceanside, CA (January 2021) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) is excited to announce the kick off their year-long 70th year anniversary campaign to celebrate seven decades of youth development in the Oceanside community.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside began serving Oceanside youth in 1952, known then as a male youth only “Boys’ Club”. The original club was demolished and reopened as the Townsite facility in the early seventies. In the early 1990’s, the Club expanded its services to all youth, including girls, becoming the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside.
The Club underwent another major renovation and re-opened in 2013. In the last ten years they have been able to renovate the Indoor Soccer Arena and build their state-of-the-art Center for Innovation.
Despite the pandemic, Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside continues to serve at-promise youth with their Back2School Program that assists youth with virtual classes, as well as their Emergency Food Program, which has served over 42,000 meals since May. During “normal” times, BGCO serves 1,400 Oceanside youth each day with programing focused on Science, Technology, Research, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.R.E.A.M).
“It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this amazing organization for the past 13 years. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that perseverance and resilience make all the difference. I invite the community to celebrate with us in honoring 70 years of changing children’s lives. We look forward to serving the Oceanside community for the next 70 years,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
BGCO will celebrate the anniversary all year long, beginning with a Drive-In Movie event to be held on Friday, April 9th at MiraCosta College. Tickets are $70 per car and include a showing of the classic movie Grease, and a popcorn and candy combo. For information or to purchase tickets to this socially distanced event, visit BGCOceanside.org or call (760) 433-8920. More events are being planned to honor this important benchmark.
A commemorative Anniversary Campaign is set to raise $700,000 during the year to support their life changing programs and scholarships for families in need. BGCO asks that supporters join the Campaign by pledging $70/month to help them reach their goal.
Here’s to another 70 years!
