At the Vista City Council meeting last Tuesday, February 24, 2021, the Council voted and approved the Vista Economic Development Strategy for Economic Development for the City of Vista. The vote was 5-0 to adopt the plan.

The City’s first Economic Development efforts were originally developed in cooperation with the Vista Economic Development Association (VEDA). In 2009, the City implemented its first formal Economic Development Strategic Plan.

In February 2020, the City procured the services of the Natelson Dale Group, Inc. (Consultant) to assist in the development of a new Economic Development Strategic Plan, known as the Vista Economic Development Strategy. Working with the consultant were members of the community.

After the meeting, the North County Daily Star spoke with Deputy Mayor Joe Green and Vista Chamber CEO Rachel Beld and received their reaction to the adoption of the plan.

Deputy Mayor said, “Our VEDS is a comprehensive document/plan that lists 78 specific strategies to insure steady economic growth and vitality for our community. Everything from workforce development through partnerships with the school district and chamber of commerce, to creating and attracting innovative businesses and districts to our city. This document will provide a road map for our economic development department to follow to insure the goals of our council and city are met.”

Vista Chamber CEO said, “The Vista Chamber of Commerce is happy to support the adoption and implementation of the Vista Economic Development Strategy. This forward-looking plan draws upon Vista’s unique attributes and leverages them to improve our community. We are proud to partner with the City and see opportunities for the Chamber to support many of the twelve strategies outlined in the plan; particularly workforce development and education, entrepreneurial development, placemaking/branding, marketing and expanding the role of arts and entertainment as economic drivers. The VEDS highlights the myriad of opportunities in Vista and we look forward to be part of the next steps.”
