Monday was International Women’s Day and March is Women’s History Month. This was a topic that we didn’t realize was so popular until just a few years ago when the Smithsonian celebrated women’s history during their annual national event. When we started putting together our list of women who contributed to the history of items related to AGSEM the list grew quickly.
Mary Anderson invented the windshield wiper, Sarah “Tabitha” Babbitt was credited in 1913 with inventing the first circular saw and Margaret Knight held 87 U.S. patents from a bag folding machine to devices for rotary engines. Women have been a large part of every part of artifacts at the Museum from their beginning. Some of our favorite fellow Museum’s and Historical Societies are celebrating #iwd2021 with great posts online.
