Gifting a Produce Trailer to the Solutions Farms

On Friday, May 14, 2021, a local sign and graphics company, Relic Signs in San Marcos, gifted Solutions for Change in Vista a custom produce trailer in support of Solutions Farms.

Solutions Farms is the brainchild of president and CEO Chris Megison. After acquiring a former two-acre nursery property, Solutions undertook a major renovation that was facilitated by more than 3000 hours of volunteer support and more than $100,000 of in-kind donations. Old structures were removed, plumbing, electrical, and other essential infrastructure was installed, and in 10 weeks of remarkably intensive efforts, Solutions Farms was built. The farm opened with about 7,000 square feet of greenhouse space outfitted with fish tanks, grow beds, pumps and lights.

Aquaponics is an eco-friendly method that allows Solutions Farms to produce large quantities of fresh-grown vegetables without taking up much land. Solutions Farms is proud to be one of the most productive aquaponics facilities on the West Coast. The farm is also a laboratory for teaching important work values and preparing people for re-entry into the workforce. This is the social enterprise function; accomplishing a worthwhile social purpose while also being a functioning business. Solutions Farms raises hope, as well as produce.

While doing all this, the farm provides a source of locally-raised, certified organic produce that is being used by North County restaurants, juice bars and eager farmers market buyers.

As part of North Coast Church’s Serve Your City, Relic Signs built and wrapped an awesome little produce trailer that Solutions Farms will use to sell their produce at Farmers Markets, Street Fairs and Festivals.

Relic Signs owner, Deb Bostwick, said “We’re so grateful to have the opportunity to support of our community, and it is an honor to give back. Solutions Farms is such an amazing program and we are excited to see the trailer on the road!”
