Driver Arrested after Colliding with Multiple Vehicles and Failing to Yield

City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call about a driver in a 2002 Ford Pickup which was pulling a trailer and had collided with multiple vehicles on El Camino Real at Alga Road. At 6:16 p.m., an officer attempted to stop the driver at Faraday Avenue and El Fuerte Street.

The driver failed to stop for the officer’s emergency lights and siren and a pursuit ensued.

The driver continued southbound on El Fuerte Street, then eastbound on Palomar Airport Road, and finally northbound on Melrose Drive at a slow rate of speed.

Officers utilized a tire deflation device to deflate the driver’s tires at Melrose Drive and Faraday Avenue in the City of Vista.

The driver pulled into a parking lot, located in the 2400 block of Melrose Drive in Vista, where he exited his vehicle and was taken into custody.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 39-year-old Tuarino Martinez of Vista. Officers arrested Martinez for a felony hit-and-run, failure to yield to an emergency police vehicle, and felony driving while under the influence of alcohol, and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility.
