To address the increased amount of trash littering Vista’s roadways (bottles, cans, plastics, paper, and other items), the City has enhanced its litter removal program. By adding an additional day to the maintenance schedule, crews are now able to specifically focus on streets identified as having the highest amount of litter. Each Friday, the litter removal efforts are concentrated across these specified streets.

“Litter increases the risks of fire, pollutes local waterways, threatens wildlife, and diverts funds from other essential road maintenance activities,” said Mayor Judy Ritter. “Please be part of the solution. Dispose of trash responsibly and secure cargo loads before driving on the road. Everyone’s help in preventing trash from ever making it to the roadways is appreciated!”

Locations for the enhanced schedule are based weekly on which public roads warrant the most attention. During the month of July, the clean up crews collected 24 bags of trash and 10 bags of recyclables. The recyclable material pickup allows this program to be funded by the CalRecycle Beverage Container grant, while trash pickup is funded by the California Mandated Trash Cleanup funding.
