CHICO, Calif. – With a career-best finish at the season-opening tournament in Santa Rosa, Cal State San Marcos’ Matthew Moss has captured the first CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award.
Moss shot an impressive 7-under 203 to easily win individual medalist honors at Sonoma State’s Fall Invite on Tuesday. He led CSUSM to a team victory as well, defeating host SSU by nine strokes.
The senior from San Diego led from start to finish, opening with a round-one score of 68 before an afternoon tally of 69 at the par-70 Valley of the Moon Golf Club. Moss completed the tournament on Tuesday with a tournament-low 66 as the only player to shoot three sub-70 rounds.
Moss won by four strokes ahead of Chico State’s Christopher Colla and Sonoma State’s Griffin Pace.
Prior to this week, Moss had never finished better than fifth in any collegiate tournament.
This marks the third Cougar to earn conference weekly honors as Renee Laurenzana earned CCAA Runner of the Week for cross country on Monday and Diana Delgado was named CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week earlier today.
The Cougars will compete again on Oct. 11-12 in Valencia at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge.
