To positively impact the community and businesses, the City will be using the excess revenues generated from local cannabis sales for new special projects. In April, 2021, the City Council agreed that cannabis sales tax revenues reflected in the General Fund should be capped at $4 million and any revenue in excess of that amount should be used to fund special projects. In Fiscal Year 2020/21, the cannabis businesses generated $5.1 million, which meant the City had $1.1 million available for new special projects,

“These new special projects will be used to ensure the health of our youth by providing cannabis decoy and enforcement operations and youth cannabis prevention and early intervention,” said Mayor Judy Ritter. “I’m also pleased we will fund youth scholarships, and more community projects that will directly impact our residents and neighborhoods.”

The Special Projects include:

Cannabis decoy and enforcement operations: $20,000
Youth cannabis prevention and early intervention: $100,000
Youth scholarship program: $140,000
Increased lighting in neighborhoods: $270,000
Park restroom maintenance: $31,000
New Sheriff’s deputy: $275,000
Park Director Ranges (2): $277,000
