The inaugural class of Overcomers will be celebrated on October 15 at the Hyatt Seabird Resort
A group of seven Overcomers, whose stories involve life on the streets, felony convictions, drug abuse and generations of deep poverty, are coming together to launch the National Overcomers Network. They want it to be a movement to acknowledge, amplify and equip people who have faced difficult personal vulnerabilities, and prevailed.
These individuals, Shannon Anderson, Ginny Burton, Teena Faison, Shenita Jefferson, Jennifer Pankey, Joe Royos, and Archie Williams not only rebuilt their lives, but now want to create a space where thousands like them can connect with one another and amplify their message to transform how society sees and acts on serving those who still suffer.
Established in 2021, they envision this network of people, organizations and supporters to build an American society where Overcoming is the norm, not the exception. It will shine a light on individuals who grappled with these vulnerabilities, became victors of their own lives, and are now seeking to make systemic change within their own communities.
The National Overcomers Network will officially launch this Friday, October 15th, where each of these Overcomers will speak, including Ginny Burton. Burton is an Overcomer whose impactful story went viral earlier this year.
The creation of this network excites me because it is an opportunity to gather some of our nation’s strongest people and programs who are dedicated to unite and transform society’s opinions of what we, human beings, are capable of. It is our chance to harmonize our skill sets, rise above the narrative, and advance our people to develop strategies to support truly thriving communities throughout our nation.
Ginny Burton, Inaugural Overcomer
The inaugural nonprofit organization is Solutions for Change, whose purpose for the last 22 years has been transforming the nation’s most vulnerable and dependent people into the most empowered, equipped and inspired Overcomers. They are honored to assist with this new Network.
The event will be hosted at the Hyatt Seabird Resort on October 15 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Mike Slater, host of “The Mike Slater Show,” will emcee the event, and the inaugural class of Overcomers will be announced. Press are welcome to attend.
