Cougars to Face Stan State, East Bay on Weekend Trip

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team will hit the road this weekend as it first travels to Stanislaus State (5-4-3, 2-1-3 CCAA) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before concluding the weekend at Cal State East Bay (7-3-2, 4-1-1 CCAA) on Sunday at 2 p.m.

LAST WEEKEND

The Cougars took a 1-0 loss to Cal State LA last Thursday before falling 2-0 to Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday.
CSUSM dropped to ninth in the CCAA standings with five points – three points behind eighth-place Cal Poly Pomona and two points ahead of 10th-place Cal State Dominguez Hills.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

CSUSM’s goal-against average of .570 ranks third in the CCAA and 19th nationally.
Allison Marcure has the second-best save percentage in the league at .882 and ranks 15th in Division II.
The Cougars have recorded a shutout in 60% of games this season, ranking third in the CCAA and 22nd nationally.

FRIDAY AT STANISLAUS STATE

CSUSM will begin its weekend in Turlock by facing the Warriors.
The Warriors are currently seventh in the CCAA standings with nine points.
Stan State is coming off a weekend in which it earned a 2-0 win against Humboldt State before a scoreless draw at Chico State.
The Warriors are 5-1-1 at home this season.
Rayana Plancarte leads Stan State with four goals and nine points.
The Warriors rank fifth nationally for save percentage and first in the CCAA at .894.
Stan State’s goals-against average of .553 ranks 18th nationally and second in the conference.
Warrior keeper Amanda Leal has tallied eight shutouts for the season – fourth most in the nation and the most in the CCAA.
The Warriors’ scoring offense of .92 goals per game rank sixth in the conference.
CSUSM is 1-4-1 in the all-time series against Stan State and is 0-2 when playing in Turlock.

WRAPPING UP THE WEEKEND IN THE EAST BAY

The Pioneers earned a 1-0 win against Humboldt State on Sunday after falling 1-0 to Chico State last Thursday.
East Bay is currently tied for second in the CCAA standings with 13 points and is two points behind first-place Sonoma State.
Leading the East Bay offense is Tami Kwong with five goals and 10 points. All five of her goals have been game-winning goals and rank third nationally.
The Pioneer defense is allowing just .636 goals per game – 27th best in Division II and fourth best in the CCAA.
At 1.42 goals per game, CSUEB ranks fifth in the conference.
CSUSM is 5-1 in the all-time series against the Pioneers and are undefeated at 4-0 when playing in Hayward.
The Cougars have won the last four games against the Pioneers and have recorded shutouts in three of them.

COUGAR OUTLOOK

CSUSM has 12 returners from its 2019 squad, including Hannah Arcala who tallied one goal and a team-leading 28 shots.
With 2020 and 2021 newcomers combined, the Cougars have 16 players wearing a CSUSM uniform on the field for the first time.
The Cougars tied for eighth in the 2021 CCAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll with Cal State Monterey Bay and Humboldt State.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his eighth year in charge of the women’s program and 16th overall at CSUSM.
Renneisen’s 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
As the women’s head coach, Renneisen is 46-41-27 (.522) for his career with the Cougars.
