On Thursday afternoon, firefighters local 4107 had a membership meeting at Barrel and Stave Pourhouse in Vista Village. One of the actions taken at the meeting was the Nomination of Daniel Geygan for President Emeritus of the Vista Fire Fighters Association.
Daniel Geygan served the citizens of the Vista Fire Protection District and the City of Vista for nearly thirteen (13) years as a firefighter, joining the ranks in 1957; and in response to unfair pay and benefit cuts imposed by the Vista Fire Protection District, began the organizing campaign that led to the establishment of the Vista Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1429, AFL-CIO.
Daniel Geygan was installed and sworn in as the first President of the Vista Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1429, AFL-CIO on July 14, 1962; and under immense scrutiny and prejudice by those in power, was successful in leading Local 1429 through negotiations and securing an agreement for commensurate wages and benefits with the newly incorporated City of Vista.
On this Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2021 we also recognize Brother Geygan’s active duty service to his Country. Daniel Geygan was a United States Army soldier serving in the Second Division Infantry during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from service on July 7, 1952, and for Daniel Geygan’s honorable service to his Country, and his selfless service to his Local.
Therefore be it that the members assembled at the 4th Quarter General Meeting of the Vista Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 4107, formally bestow upon Brother Daniel Geygan the title of President Emeritus of the Vista Fire Fighters Association.
