SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team took down West Coast Baptist, 99-49, in a nonconference matchup on Thursday night at The Sports Center.
The Cougars shot 51.9 percent (42-of-81) from the field including 63.9 percent (23-of-36) in the second half alone. CSUSM went 13-of-34 (38.2 percent) from behind the arc while junior Dalton Soffer had a team-high four three-pointers. WCB went 18-of-53 (34 percent) shooting and just 8-of-27 (29.6 percent) from distance.
CSUSM improves to 2-1 following the win while the Eagles will fall to 1-5 now on the season.
Five Cougars finished in double-digits scoring while senior Joe Boyd recorded his second double-double of the season and led the team in points with 16 and rebounds with 13
Classmate Josh Spiers totaled 14 points while grabbing 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Off the bench, senior Collin Host played his best game of the season thus far after picking up 14 points and six rebounds in 17 minutes played.
The Cougars had a season-high 13 steals and forced 23 turnovers from the Eagles. CSUSM also dominated on the boards, outrebounding WCB 48-24 while collecting 16 offensive rebounds.
CSUSM will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 as they welcome nonconference foe Azusa Pacific to The Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
