Moonlight Only Four Nights to see ‘Memphis’ Before it is Gone

What a show!!!

What a show!!! If you like great music and amazing vocalists, you will absolutely LOVE this show!

The Moonlight Theater is hosting a Tony Award-winning hit, MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL. This musical is set in the 1950s and sadly, many of the challenges society delt with then, are still present today. At such a time as this, when our culture is grappling with differences and acceptance, this musical is inspiring on so many levels. Sometimes, all it takes is one person to make a difference for change to come.

The set is impressive to say the least, which is not surprising at the Moonlight, with an orchestra incorporated into the rear of the set at times, the look and feel of Memphis, the use
of graphic overlays, and actual pictures of Memphis in the 50s, was masterful. The balconies on each side of the stage afforded versatility and the few pieces that where seamlessly moved on and off stage made for a stellar set. The stage grew did a great job moving things in the shadows. Kudos to the team!

The costumes were very appropriate and applicable to the times of the setting. For the ladies, they were classy and tasteful and for the men, they suited the role they played very well. Progression of time and status were made obvious through the changes in wardrobes, as well. I especially enjoyed Felicia’s attire, the 50s style is alive and well in 2022.

Now on to the show… this story is about the music and the unity it brings among friends and foes. You will jam to 50s rock-n-roll, gospel, soul, and country music… oh, and a little bebop, too. As you are sucked in by the contagious beats, you will watch a forbidden love story unfold right before your eyes. Thanks to “rebels” like Huey Calhoun, today, we as a society are able to make our own “choices” on who to date because of the trailblazers that have gone before us. (Emphases on key words that are unpacked in the musical.)

This production is worthy of a second viewing. As you know, when you see something for the first time, you take in as much as you can, and you don’t always know what to expect. However, when you view a second time, you can enjoy it so much more because you know what to expect and you are simply enjoying great entertainment. Due to mild language, I see this as an adult show. It is great for friends to enjoy together and ideal for a date night picnic under the stars. Either way, bring your blanket!

Again, I repeat…. this production is worth seeing again before it is gone!
