On June 28, the Escondido Police Department held a donuts and coffee farewell event for Chief Varso. Chief Varso’s law enforcement career began in 1993 when he became a Sheriff Explorer. He was later hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as a Custody Assistant, and then as a Deputy Sheriff. Chief Varso joined the Escondido Police Department in 2001 when he was hired as a Police Officer. He served as a Police Officer and Police K-9 Handler until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2011. In January 2015, he was promoted to Lieutenant, promoted to Captain in 2018, Assistant Chief of Police in October 2019, and finally appointed to the position of Chief of Police in January 2020.
Chief Varso will begin his new role as Chief of Police in Menifee. Thank you for your many years of service in Escondido. We will miss you!
