Oceanside residents are celebrating recent sidewalk improvements on Monday, October 24th from 5-6 PM at La Casita, located at 402 Brooks Street. Welcoming remarks will be made by Mayor Esther Sanchez.
Refreshments are planned from 5 to 5:30 and a 15 minute community walk over the bridge from 5:30-5:45PM. Please join us in celebrating the great work of collaboration.
Crown Heights residents and Vista Community Clinic have collaborated with the City of Oceanside to improve walkability and pedestrian safety in their local community.
Over 1 mile of sidewalk has been added on Brooks Street and Country Club Lane, as well as new stop signs and upgrades on curbs to meet ADA guidelines.
The journey of sidewalks began way back when residents from Crown Heights went through a Resident Leadership Academy training in 2019. This led the residents to start meeting with city officials to talk about community improvements.
Many residents in the Crown Heights community walk to local schools, shopping, and community services; the lack of sidewalks and unsafe crossing over Interstate 5 at Country Club Lane has been a concern for decades.
·Residents are excited to see these improvements, and want to thank and celebrate with City officials and City staff and continue to foster long-term collaboration to improve resident health, safety, and well-being.
