SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team was picked to finish first in the 2022-23 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference announced on Wednesday.
CSUSM led the way with 142 points and 10 first-place votes. Cal State LA (128) finished second followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills (111) as each received one first-place vote.
Cal Poly Pomona (103) was fourth, Chico State (87) was fifth and Cal State East Bay (73) landed in the sixth spot.
The Cougars are coming off one of the best seasons in program history, finishing with a 22-4 overall record and 19-1 mark in CCAA play. CSUSM won the CCAA Regular-Season Championship for the second consecutive season en route to an appearance in the NCAA West Regional.
In the process, head coach Renee Jimenez was named CCAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
The Cougars return All-CCAA first-team selections redshirt senior guard Dynnah Buckner and redshirt junior forward Jordan Vasquez in addition to All-CCAA second-team honoree redshirt senior guard Kelsey Forrester.
CSUSM will play an exhibition game at Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Nov. 11, before beginning the season at home against Point Loma on Nov. 15 in The Sports Center.
