Sheriff’s Traffic Deputies are investigating a deadly traffic collision in San Marcos.
On Thursday, February 23 around 7:00 a.m., Sheriff’s Dispatchers received a call about a collision at the intersection of S. Rancho Santa Fe Road and La Colusa Drive.
Based on the initial investigation by deputies, a 2016 Jeep Cherokee was heading northbound on S. Rancho Santa Fe Road when the driver lost control and struck the raised median. The SUV continued to travel up and over the median and into the southbound lanes of S. Rancho Santa Fe Road. where it collided with a 2008 Lincoln MKZ. The force of the impact caused the SUV to roll on its side and catch fire.
Firefighters with the San Marcos Fire Department were in the area when they heard the collision and immediately began rescue efforts. Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station arrived moments later to assist.
The driver of the Lincoln had to be extricated from his car by firefighters. He was rushed to the hospital with major injuries, but later died. The driver of the Jeep also had to be rescued from his vehicle. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.
At this time, it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone witnessed the collision or has any information, call Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Valdez at (760) 510-5042.

Una persona muerta en choque de dos vehículos.
Los oficiales de tráfico del Alguacil están investigando un accidente de tráfico mortal en San Marcos.
El jueves 23 de febrero alrededor de las 7:00 a.m., los despachadores del Alguacil recibieron una llamada sobre una colisión en la intersección de S. Rancho Santa Fe Road y La Colusa Drive.
Según la investigación inicial de los oficiales, un Jeep Cherokee 2016 se dirigía hacia el norte en S. Rancho Santa Fe Road cuando el conductor perdió el control y golpeó la mediana elevada. Los bomberos del San Marcos Fire Department estaban en el área cuando escucharon la colisión e inmediatamente comenzaron las labores de rescate. Oficiales del San Marcos Sheriff’s Station llegaron momentos después para ayudar.
El conductor del Lincoln tuvo que ser sacado de su auto por los bomberos. Fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital con heridas graves, pero luego murió. El conductor del Jeep también tuvo que ser rescatado de su vehículo. Fue llevado al hospital por heridas leves. No había otros pasajeros en ninguno de los dos vehículos.
