Grab a pen and join us for this fast-paced workshop, sprinkled with ideas and stories to inspire and empower writers of all types. We’ll start with a peek at today’s book business (both traditional and indie publishing), then share resources to help you connect with literary agents and editors.

Seeking to boost your command of the craft? We’ll offer tips for adding sparkle and spunk to your prose, including a gem from a gutsy comedy star. If reaching readers via promotion is on your radar, listen in for a marketing tactic that can set you apart from the pack.

“1-2-3” includes real-time writing prompts, Q&A, four-page handout, and a sample edit of your writing.

Sunday, April 23, 1 to 2:30pm. NOTE: This is the last time “Book Publishing 1-2-3” will be offered in San Diego County.

Presented by Laurie Gibson, the local editor with two-plus decades of experience serving individual writers, publishers (e.g., Bloomsbury), nonprofits (e.g., the Southern Poverty Law Center), and universities (e.g., Stanford). She’s proofread the writing of trailblazers ranging from novelist Alice Walker, to musician Jimmy Buffett, to Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. Laurie also taught editing for the Extension programs at both UCSD and UCLA for several years; recently she finished writing her first novel, which features British punk rockers The Clash. Currently she’s seeking new clients with book-length manuscripts.
