It’s been a whirlwind week in the Legislature, with consequential decisions at the forefront. In case you missed it – Senate Bill 14 was voted down in the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Senate Bill 14 aims to make human trafficking of minors a serious felony. You read that right – the Public Safety Committee voted in opposition to this critical bill.
What kind of message does this vote send to the most vile of criminals hiding in the darkness of our Golden State? There must be real consequences for criminal behavior to ensure the safety of Californians. As your Assemblywoman, I could not let this one go quietly.
My colleagues and I announced that we would pull out all the stops to ensure Senate Bill 14 received the attention it deserves. I am relieved to inform you that our efforts paid off. The Public Safety Committee felt the pressure and had to re-hear the bill.
