25th Anniversary Celebration – Oceanside READS and Author Event

September 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us as we celebrate 25 years of supporting adults as they reach their education goals through Oceanside Public Library’s adult literacy program, Oceanside READS. Oceanside READS Learning Center provides free tutoring and small group classes for adults who want to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in a welcoming and encouraging environment. With the help of dedicated community volunteers, READS Learning Center has served thousands of individuals through three programs: Adult Literacy, Family Literacy and English as a Second Language. A partnership between California Library Literacy Services and the City of Oceanside has sustained this service for 25 years.

At the celebration, Oceanside READS will debut its first anthology, Our Oceanside, a collection of 52 narratives, poems and pieces of art contributed by more than 30 new authors, some of whom will read their pieces at the event. This first edition invites the reader to experience the Journeys, Challenges, Celebrations of adult learners as well as see Oceanside through a unique lens. Local author and motivational speaker, Erica Alfaro, author of Harvesting Dreams, will share her powerful story of transformation through education at this celebration. Join us at the John Landes Community Center Library, 2855 Cedar Road, on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 6 – 8 p.m. RSVP required. To RSVP, call (760) 435-5680 or visit https://oceansidepl.librarycalendar.com/event/reads-celebration-and-author-event.
