CAMP PENDLETON, Calif.- Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oceanside Area responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on northbound I-5, south of the CHP San Onofre Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility/ US Border Patrol Checkpoint.
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a 20-year-old Oceanside resident was riding a black Yamaha R1 motorcycle in the northbound lanes of I-5. Ahead of the Yamaha, was a 22-year-old Oceanside resident riding a Honda CBR600RR motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, the Yamaha collided into the rear of the Honda motorcycle, which caused both riders to be thrown from their motorcycles.
The California Highway Patrol, and Fire/paramedics responded to the scene. Unfortunately, the rider of the Yamaha was pronounced deceased at the scene. The rider of the Honda as transported to a local area hospital for moderate injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to have contributed to the cause of this collision. The identity of the Yamaha rider will be released through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
